Africa-Press – Lesotho. Majority of Mafeteng youth who participated at a one-day National Youth Development Bill, 2024 gathering have suggested that the ministry of youth be led by the candidate ranging between ages of 26 to 35.
Speaking during the gathering held at Thakaneng on Friday they said such candidate will be able to make informed decision concerning youth issues unlike now when the ministry is led by the older person who is doing thing according to his thinking.
They stated that even the representation of youth at the National Youth Council should include more numbers from other districts rather than taking those from urban areas only, even those at rural areas should be remembered and their voices be heard.
On the other hand Nthabiseng Pitso said ten youth should be elected against four being stipulated at the bill to accommodate those from rural areas.
Ms. Pitso highlighted that the council representation should report regularly concerning its operations, make their own decisions and organise awareness on misuse of alcohol and substance.
She stated that there is need for Youth Council to be fully funded and have its own budget and decentralization of powers including services, saying even youth affiliated organization should be registered at the district level.
Speaking at the same occasion member of Parliament for Mafeteng Constituency Mr. Moeketsi Motsoane said youth need to understand their role in viewing their opinions with regard to the National Youth Development Bill since it is theirs.
