Africa-Press – Lesotho. The South African Broadcasting Corporation (MISA) Lesotho has celebrated World Press Freedom Day by awarding awards to the Lesotho Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli and former Tsepong Hospital spokesperson Ms’ Mathapelo Thahane on Friday.
This day is celebrated every year on 03 May in honor of the importance of media freedom around the world. The Chairperson of MISA Lesotho, His Excellency Nkoale TSOana, said they sat down to discuss how they will celebrate this year and plan to acknowledge and honor the people who have taken the lead in providing information to facilitate the work of the media.
he said they planned to do this honor in the form of gifts. “It has been very difficult to identify the most suitable media for these awards and we have convened a national government committee with the media to give advice on the nomination of candidates.
We have provided a list of 15 people who we have asked to be nominated when we come out with my father Mpiti Mopeli and ‘mother’ Mathapelo Thahane, ”he said.
Tsoana said there were several factors involved in their selection, adding that the first issue was whether the person was always available when the media needed him, whether his doors were always open and whether. is a person who knows how to talk to people. “We have found that both winners have these qualities,” he said.
He also noted that Mopeli provides weekly police reports to keep the public informed of national issues, saying Thahane has also taken the lead in shutting down the media and responding to them whenever there is a matter.
at the Hospital of Hope. Thahane thanked MISA Lesotho, directly thanking Tsoana for the guidance he gave him in the media. He said the media had been kind enough to work with him.
“I would not be what I am if it were not for the media. All hospitals need a media outlet where people can cry.
There are 20 students that I train every year and I wish the government could assign such people to Covid-19, ”Thahane explained. He also thanked the Basotho people for their support and patience.
Mopeli praised the police service as a whole and pointed out that his colleagues were very supportive of him. He explained that the award was no longer his own as a person but for the entire Lesotho police.
He said his ambition was to serve the Basotho people well and make them feel comfortable when they went to face their local police. He said he wished the Basotho people were in good spirits and mentally and would be proud to see their police force. Mopeli appealed to MISA Lesotho to provide the media with identity documents that they can identify with the media.
