Africa-Press – Lesotho. Normally, after climbing to the top, many people have a tendency of kicking down the ladder, forgetting about friends and associates who have contributed to their attainment of the feat, however, “many” does not mean “all” – there are still some genuine souls like Rethabile Thaathaa (21) who celebrate the victory with the team.
Thaathaa is a Berea Mokhethoaneng born supermodel and the reigning Miss Lesotho 2018. To compete in the pageant she says one of the requirements was a charity project from each model to express a quality or characteristic of beauty with purpose, a requirement she fulfilled through Malibuseng orphanage where she taught the orphans how to make jewelry with bits.
This project eventually paved her road to achieving the prestigious crown. To express a sense of gratitude for the opportunity she was given by the orphanage, she says she has planned to celebrate her 21st birthday with Malibuseng Orphans on Friday as she will be turning 21.
“I just want to say thanks to the orphanage for the opportunity they gave me to work with them and I want to express this with an action and not just words.
I understand and admit that things could have possibly turned out otherwise if it wasn’t for them but because of them, here I am today, I am the Queen” proudly emphasized the model going on to cite that she will only be celebrating her biggest and special day with the orphans without giving them anything material.
She however didn’t rule out a possibility of giving them something if her sponsors could provide extras. As to what inspired her decision to teach the kids how to make jewelry over a usual trend of donating material things or food to the orphanages she said she believes in giving out both items and skills rather than only items as they get all consumed and leave the recipients struggling again thereafter.
“All I spent on was capital; bits and all other material needed in the production of jewelry, from there I worked with them and taught them how to produce”
“As much as I am not against any type or way of giving out but I strongly believe that skill is more sustainable than items and a person can depend on the skill for the rest of their life” she maintained.
Winning Miss Lesotho crown gave Thaathaa a ticket to Miss world 2018, a prestigious global showpiece where she will crosswords with the world’s finest in the modeling industry. She highlighted that the preparations are going smooth and she’s more than excited to go and boldly represent her country on the international stage.
