Mob beats up man to death following brawl

Africa-Press – Lesotho. A Qacha’s Nek man who had just been released from prison was killed by a mob after he stabbed two women during a quarrel. The incident happened last Saturday in Qacha’s Nek Waterfall area.

Mosa Mokhali, 34, was released last month after spending four years in jail for stabbing his wife. Yet instead of learning from his mistake, Mokhali went back to his old ways.

The Waterfall councillor, Lephallo Phooko, said Mokhali visited a local bar with a woman who was alleged to be his lover. Phooko said the fight started after the woman refused to go home with Mokhali.

Mokhali is alleged to have briefly left the bar and came back brandishing a knife he used to stab the woman. The female bartender who tried to intervene was also stabbed.

The women filed a report with the police but Mokhali disappeared. When he returned on Monday a mob of about 50 people surrounded his house. They attacked him with stones and sticks.

The police took him to the nearby Ha-’Manteko Clinic where he was declared dead upon arrival. Superintendent Thembinkosi Sibanda from Qacha’s Nek police said the incident was reported to them on Monday by the victims.

“After that report, police officers went there only to find that Mokhali was beaten so much by the villagers,” Superintendent Sibanda said.

“The police took him to a nearby clinic and he then lost his life there.”
