Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Health, Mr. Selibe Mochoboroane, has commended Lesotho’s steady progress in advancing national and regional health security, saying the country’s achievements are rooted in both international treaties and national commitments.
Speaking at the ongoing Joint External Evaluation (JEE) in Maseru, Mr. Mochoboroane highlighted key milestones that demonstrate Lesotho’s unwavering commitment to global health standards and preparedness.
He noted that since the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) in 2007, Lesotho has maintained a dedicated coordinating office within the Ministry of Health to ensure compliance and effective coordination of public health emergencies.
The Minister further underlined the adoption of all editions of the Integrated Diseases Surveillance and Response (IDSR) guidelines, which have been accompanied by extensive training across all levels, including communities, to strengthen early detection and response systems.
He added that the successful completion of the State Party Annual Reports (SPAR) has fostered multi-sectoral engagement and accountability, a crucial step in ensuring transparency and collective responsibility in national health security.
Highlighting risk management measures, Mr. Mochoboroane said the conduct of risk assessments using the Strategic Tool for Assessing Risks (STAR) has enabled the Ministry to develop targeted response plans that address specific health threats.
