Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho Table Tennis (LeTTA) president Chabeli Mohatlane has lauded his executive committee for the successes it achieved in the last four years. Mohatlane was speaking at the association’s elective conference on Saturday at Setsoto Stadium where he was re-elected unopposed as president.

The LeTTA executive was originally elected into office in 2018 and the majority of the previous committee also retained their positions. Mohatlane said during their time in the office they were able to host the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Table Tennis Championships in 2019.

The association also successfully held several championships in Butha-Buthe and Mafeteng although LeTTA was unable to go around the country because of a lack of finances.

After getting re-elected, Mohatlane said the association’s focus will turn on preparing a team that will represent Lesotho at the African Table tennis Championships in Botswana next year.

Due to the lockdown and restrictions, team Lesotho is behind compared to their counterparts, however, with sports now fully allowed to resume LeTTA can start preparing the team.

Mohatlane said they have had talks with the Maseru City Council (MCC) to use available spaces around the Maseru to build table tennis tables where the youth can go and play instead of hanging around in the streets engaging in illegal activities.

“You know me, it’s not about money or pride, we are simply trying to develop sport,” Mohatlane said after his re-election on Saturday.

“We know what we want, we are going to prepare our team and put them at a level to compete.

(The) African Championships are here, it’s been signed, they will be in Botswana,” he said. The association is also in talks with Kick4Life although the discussions are still in their infancy.
