Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho Centre Referee Lebalang Martin Mokete has been elected among the 18 center referees who will officiate at the 2021 Under- 17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Championship tournament.

Mokete will join the top referees and 24 assistant referees elected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate at the tournament scheduled for Morocco in

July this year. Mokete was this past weekend in a continental assignment as the central referee for the CAF Confederations Cup match between Napsa stars Football Club (FC) of Zambia and Gor Mahia FC of Kenya.

He was assisted by the local referees Shaun Dlangamandla and Mapoho Mapoho as his 1st and 2nd assistant referees respectively while Osias Koto will be the

fourth official. LeFA Referees Coordinator Mohau Sentšo in an interview with Informative Sports stated that Mokete is a young and vibrant referee who has extensive officiating skills

and his performance is extremely well in his endeavors both nationally and internationally. He added that Mokete participated in several recognized top tournaments in the country such

as the Top 8 tournament and Matekane Group of Companies (MGC) tournament. “Internationally, he has participated in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) and COSAFA challenge

premier, however it is his first time to officiate in the AFCON Championship tournament. Therefore, the association is glad for his recognition and selection into the refereeing panel assigned to be in charge of U-17 AFCON

tournament,” LeFA Referees Coordinator explained. Apart from that, he also showed that Mokete is the only referee who qualified to serve the continental assignment in the country.

The 18 selected referees by CAF to Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Championship tournament are from the following countries; Lesotho, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Uganda, Benin, Comoros, Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, Togo, Seychelles, Algeria, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Liberia, Djibouti, Nigeria and Eritrea.
