Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Public Relations Officer and the former District Football Association (DIFA) Mokhotlong First Vice President, Sekonyela Molefe, has toppled his boss Lenka Mokhethi to claim the association’s presidency in presidential elections held in Mokhotlong on Saturday.

Molefe cruised to victory with a big margin against his two competitors Mokhethi and Setsase Lekhupane. Mokhethi had been president for the past four years.

He collected 57 votes; Mokhethi gathered eight votes while Lekhupane only managed to get four votes. In an interview Molefe expressed gratitude for being elected to this position.

He promised to work harmoniously with Zonal managers in the district to achieve all his plans, which include the establishment of a Chairpersons’ Forum to discuss football development in the district.

He further indicated that he aimed at investing in grassroots football development in both boys and girls to make it easy for the national coaches to select from a good pool of players – including in his home district.

“We have learned from complications brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic that development is crucial in football.

I will also reinforce refereeing in Mokhotlong to ensure that old referees are empowered while also facilitating the recruitment of new referees to promote fair play in the district.

“The focus will also be to empower coaches in the district through the formation of district Coaches Association to deal with related matters.

Through coaches’ assistance, we will form Under-17 and Under-20 teams to make it easy for the national teams’ coaches to make selection from a great pool of players,” he added. Meanwhile, LeFA president, Advocate Salemane Phafane, congratulated Molefe on his new role.

“LeFA president congratulates LeFA executive committee member Tebalo Mpiti for retaining his position as DIFA Qacha ‘s Nek president and Sekonyela Molefe for his victory in the DIFA Mokhotlong presidential elections on Saturday,” a LeFA statement reads in part.

Mpiti was unopposed for his position in Qacha’s Nek presidential elections. Mokhotlong and Qacha’s Nek are the second and third DIFAs to hold presidential elections after DIFA Leribe which re-elected LeFA First Vice President Khiba Mohoanyane as its president some weeks ago.
