Africa-Press – Lesotho. Outgoing Lesotho Taekwondo Association (LTA) publicist, Sekh’okh’e Molikoe, has his eyes on the organisation’s vice president’s post. According to Molikoe, the LTA is scheduled to hold its long-awaited elective conference on March 13, after a protracted fight which ended up in the courts of law.
Members disagreed over electoral procedures that included clubs eligibility to the association’s elective conference. The upcoming elective conference was halted last November after the issuance of a High Court order to that effect.
This was not the first time the association’s electoral process was arrested. The first postponement was in March last year – due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Molikoe said they were currently waiting for technical and logistical support from the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) and the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) to be able to proceed to a successful elective conference.
The outgoing LTA PRO said nominations are still open until the last week preceding the conference. “We are awaiting support from the two mother-bodies to ensure that we hold transparent elections,” said Molikoe in an interview with Public Eye on Monday.
He further revealed that while still looking for re-election this time around he had his eyes on Vice President’s post. He said, “Of course, I am going to contest in the upcoming elections, though it will depend on which position the voting members will prefer me to contest for.
But I want to contest for the Vice President’s post. ” Molikoe said it’s about time he served at the highest administrative level in the sports. He said he believed he can do a great job and help bring back “the good image of the sport.
“It is about administration so I think I can contribute a lot to shape our administration. I think I can contribute a lot to make it effective and to have good policies in order to operate smoothly.
” The elective conference follows the departure of the association’s president, Moorasane Nkesi and Vice President – Finance Molupe Molupe who both quit some months ago.
Nkesi told this paper last year when he left that he arrived at the decision to step down as president “because of corruption in the administration of the sport that has for ages been respected as a clean sport.
” Molupe on the other hand was said to have left after his tour of duty expired. The term of office of the outgoing taekwondo leadership came to an end in March last year.
Molikoe maintains that the associations failed to hold an elective conference because of imposed COVID-19 restrictions, but some member clubs accused the LTA of administrative blunders and disregard for the constitution of the association – and for failure to hold the elective conference as provided for by law.
The clubs asked for the LNOC and the LSRC to intervene as they believed the LTA leadership was merely making a lame excuse in adducing government’s declared Covid borne lockdown as the reason for failure to hold the conference.
Lesotho first went on lockdown on March 29, 2020, and taekwondo clubs’ bosses said it was obvious that the LTA was not at all intending to hold the conference despite the fact that according to the constitution, clubs should have been notified about the conference 14 days prior to the scheduled date for the gathering.
Their argument was that such a notification was never relayed to them until government announced that the country will be on lockdown at the end of March 2020.
