Africa-Press – Lesotho. Mon Foods’ poultry production and poultry business has reduced the unemployment rate by employing 60 Basotho since its inception on 2 September 2020. The business is in the process of increasing its workforce to 500 by March 2021.

Mon Foods CEO Thabo Steven Monyamane during the official launch of the business on 30 May 2020 said Mon Foods was a fully fledged Basotho-owned business, saying its aim was to bring hope to the Basotho people to see themselves.

they can do things without relying on other types of people. He pointed out that they were reviving the poultry production that took place in the 1960s when Lesotho was one of the countries that excelled in its production in the African continent.

He said they were working hard to ensure that Lesotho was able to feed itself on its own food in order to overcome poverty. “Lesotho loses about M1.9 billion a year to import poultry. It buys 19,000 chickens every day, ”he said.

He pointed out that they were severely challenged during the travel ban and even the closure of the border due to the COVID-19 epidemic where it was difficult for the country to meet some of its needs.

Monyamane also reported that in Thaba-Bosiu four chicken coops will be built, saying the plan is to cross 65,000 chickens so that they can slaughter 4,000 a day, and sell 77,000 a week.

He said they would also be producing grain in Thaba-Bosiu where they would buy land from local residents. He said the food would be processed and fed to the chickens.

Monyamane appealed to the Basotho people to support them by buying their chickens so that the business can grow. Representative of the Prime Minister’s Office Dr.

Leketeke Ketso, who is also a member of the development committee, said Lesotho must rise up to produce food in order to feed its people. Ketso appealed to the youth to speed up the development of Lesotho.

He also called on the Basotho people to support each other so that they can succeed in transforming the country together, and reduce the rate of food imports. Ketso pointed out that they as the government had advised officials to come out of the offices and assist the farmers.

He said Mon Foods, under the leadership of Monyamane, had brought about a major change in the country and that the office of the Prime Minister had opened its doors to help it wherever there was a problem.

The Minister of Finance, Hon. show of this interest. Sofonia also points out that although the minister has good intentions, it takes a long time for civil servants to achieve such goals, and this as a minister is very frustrating. He also called for the revitalization of agricultural programs to give the community the impetus to return to agriculture at a faster rate.
