Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Commander of the Lesotho Defense Force Leutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela says moral ledership should start at the family setting not from formal education system.
He made the remarks during the pass out of three hundred and senty five Bootcamper’s ceremony held in Mafeteng on Friday where he said the parents should set a good examples of being good leaders, saying without the principle the country will have uncontrolled children.
Lt. General informed attendees that the Bootcampers have successfully completed a three week training on leadership, patriotism, order and discipline to mention the few, saying without other stakeholders the Lesotho Defense Force could not succeed to train the partticipants.
He expressed satisfaction over the training conducted, skills given to the participants and said they are now national assets registered under Lesotho Defense Force database diretory going back home fit and heathy, thanking parents for allowing their children to attend this important programme intended to provide youth with leadership skills.
Speaking at the same occasion Lieutenant Colonel Molefi Mosiuoa said the Lesotho Defense Force Youth Development Programme started in 2021 with seventy one youth group called manomoro from Khubetsoana who were engaged in criminal activities of assaulting members of the community in the area, grabbing their properties and stabbing them with knives.
He highlighted that Innitially the training for manomoro was planned to take only two weeks but due to heavy load of work it was extended to three months, saying it was followed by the first group of two hundred fifty youth aged between 12 and 22 years from different villages and districts to encourage them to stop engaing in criminal offenses while the same time instilling discipline, patriotism and leadership.
On the other hand the on behalf of the parents Mrs. ‘Mamorapeli Tebejane informed the participants that they are lucky to be one of those trained on leadership, discipline and patriotism so that they grow up knowing their roots and responsibility.
She notified them that they could be educated to where they wanted but if they lack discipline, leadership skills and patriotism they will be going nowhere, requsting children to accept their parents the way they are and always not to depressed but support them in all forms.
Mrs. Tebejane allerted participants that from today onwards they should know that they belong to two families of original home and the Lesotho Defense Force, saying upon their arrival at home they should be different children as members of the community are complaining with bad behaviour of young people.
On the other hand the participants Letlotlo Lieta who was the smallest of all thanked the Lesotho Defence Force for sparing their time to train them and provide thembwith skills that will make them responsible future adults.
Letlotlo also thanked their parents for supporting them with funds to the important training intended to model them and discourage them not to engage in criminal activities.
The Lesotho Defense Force Youth Development Programme started in 2021 and has trained more than four thousand youth with thirteen youth groups up to this far and this year the programme engaged participants from 12 to 36 years of age.
