Mothers' Union Spreads Christmas Joy in Qacha's Nek

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Mothers’ Union of the Anglican Church of Lesotho (ACL) at St. Barnabas Parish is set to spread festive cheer this Christmas.

Members joined forces to prepare a special celebration for new-borns at Machabeng Government Hospital on December 25, 2025, bringing gifts such as clothes and cosmetics to welcome the little ones into the world.

Speaking to the Agency, Mothers’ Union representative Nkomane Shasha explained that the initiative reflects the organization’s core mission of motherly care and nurturing children.

“We have five key objectives, including raising children in faith and the life of Christ,” Shasha said. “To guide them in faith, we first need to welcome them into the world with love.”

The initiative, which has been ongoing for years, was briefly interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic but has now resumed. This year, around 50 children are expected to benefit, supported by contributions totalling M2000 from 30 members.

Shasha also revealed that the celebrations will continue on Boxing Day, December 26, with a visit to Khomo-lia-oela, where members will share lunch and distribute clothing to residents.

“The area is home to vulnerable people. While we may not meet all their needs, we want everyone especially children to enjoy the festive season with home-cooked meals and gifts,” she said.

Looking ahead, Shasha expressed the Union’s ambition to expand the program to include food parcels and new clothing for other communities in need.

Founded nearly 150 years ago, the Mothers’ Union is a global Christian organization committed to supporting families, ending poverty, and promoting justice.

Through grassroots initiatives, its members offer hope and practical support to millions worldwide each year through parenting, literacy, and community development programs.

Through their heartfelt efforts, the Mothers’ Union of St. Barnabas Parish demonstrates that the true spirit of Christmas lies in love, care, and community.

From welcoming new-borns with gifts to sharing meals with those in need, their dedication reminds people that small acts of kindness can light up even the coldest winter days and sow hope for brighter tomorrows.
