Africa-Press – Lesotho. Members of Parliament (MPs) have been urged to support and ensure the safety of tourists during the upcoming Roof of Africa and Maletsunyane Braai festival to be held in the country, starting on Wednesday.
The call was made by the Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo in the National Assembly on Monday.
Mr. Maqelepo said while the country collects a significant amount of money in revenue from these events, hospitality entities including some members of the public also benefit.
He indicated that the country collected about M5 Million in revenue during last year’s Roof of Africa which saw 1365 tourists, saying over M10 Million in revenue was collected from Maletsunyane Braai festival which saw 4367 tourists.
He highlighted that this year, 400 riders from 15 countries will participate in Roof of Africa and will attract over 1900 tourists while Maletsunyane Braai festival is expected to attract over 5000 tourists.
He stated that other events, which include Lesotho Tourism Festival (LETOFE) , Moshoeshoe Walk and Afriski amongst others also contribute significantly towards Lesotho’s revenue..
