MTB cyclists gears up for SA Cup

Africa-Press – Lesotho. National Mountain Bike (MTB) cycling team is heading for South Africa (SA) to compete in the tournament scheduled for Sunday 27th February at Parys in the Free State.

The team’s representatives are Tumelo Makae, Phetetso Monese, Eric Mohanoe and Lichaba West. Liteboho Letlala is the Manager while the Coach is Mark West.

“The criterion used for selection of the team was based on their previous performance. These are the cyclists who

were always leading in MTB as per their excellent race clocking times recognized by the UCI,” Letlala noted. She disclosed to this reporter that this will mark their first competition in this highly esteemed race, which is recognized

by the world cycling mother body – the International Cycling Union (UCI). She further stated that they are well prepared for the tournament, saying they are courageous and positive that they

will represent their country honor. Letlala said the distance of the race will differ according to the various categories of the cyclists because they also

have Eric Ramohanoe who falls under junior category. “Our participation in this race will prepare us for the upcoming Africa Championship tournament that will be held in

Namibia starting from 11th to 14th April and the Commonwealth games that will be in July 2022. We were hands on as team Lesotho, we have been trying to prepare for these games since the end of Christmas

break. Last week we competed at the V-Power racing campaign whereTumelo Makae, as one of our prominent cyclists, came home with a win,” she said. As the team manager, Letlala said her

expectation is to see the squad being one of the leading examples to other cyclists to attract more participants in the coming competitions. She shared

that there are other promising cyclists within the Federation of Cycling Lesotho (FCL), saying they only have to upgrade their skills to help them compete at international level.
