Africa-Press – Lesotho. In celebration of Independence Day – October 04th, the Federation of Cycling Lesotho (FCL) will host 8 Kilometers (KM) Lap Mountain Bike tournament around Thaba-Bosiu area.
The tournament is a unique activity to be embroidered with a scenic sport blended with culture and heritage. It is intended to prepare cyclists for the upcoming National Cycling Championship scheduled to be in December this year.
“The aim of this tournament is also to inspire, strengthen, challenge and equip 10 women who are undergoing cycling trainings, with skills to better their performance at the coming National Cycling Championship,” said FCL Public Relations Officer (PRO) Malefane Morie in an exclusive interview with Informative Sport.
He informed that cycling trainings for women started earlier this year after FCL received bicycles and other cycling equipment from the Union of Cyclist International (UCI).
These were intended to enhance the growth of cycling in all levels including women and youth empowerment. Morie added that these women are young and ambitious and were selected from the local cycling clubs following their interest in cycling sport.
He said this group of women in cycling is coming from the prominent cycling clubs such as High Riders, Club Mazenod and Msindo. Morie showed that various events associated with Independence Day will be performed in this lap to raise their enthusiasm.
They will also participate in culture and heritage activities like camping and bonfire. “Cycling will also incorporate fun challenging for professionals and fun riders and the kids and new riders’ short circuit.
This round of circuit will be beneficial to the pros to monitor their trainings well and for the new riders it will be an opportunity to examine themselves on whether they will be capable to enter other cycling competitions or choose another way of utilizing it as cycling is a flexible sport that can be played for fun or for living purposes,” he said.
On the other hand, the PRO enlightened that as part of preparations for National Cycling Championship, FCL participated in the non- competitive Lesotho Sky event which started on 21st and ended on 26th September in Malealea and Semonkong areas.
Morie stated that nine cyclists coming from the seven countries; Namibia, South-Africa (SA), United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (USA), Germany and Switzerland participated in this event, including Lesotho the 10 women in cycling trainees.
