Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association (LPPA) held its 50th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Thaba-Bosiu last Saturday. One of its obligations was to hold elections for the Association’s
National Executive Committee, which is elected after every three years. The Presidency position was won by Thabang Mosena who has been the Association’s
member for 11 years. Upon his election, LPPA President Thabang Mosena expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Presidents who came before him as they paved the way
through their hard work leading LPPA to be amongst the facilities that deliver quality health care services for the good of Basotho. Mosena further clarified
that with the responsibilities and challenges that come with his position, he believes it is not going to be easy but through collaboration, they will all
conquer. He further expressed pride over LPPA’s constitution saying it will guide them into understanding the importance of all the members within the
Executive Committee. LPPA Outgoing President Boithabiso Sithole uttered his thanksgivings for the term he and the other committee members served, and wished the newly
appointed committee well. Sithole disclosed that during their term, they built two clinics in Butha- Buthe and Mafeteng. He further said they will always be
available to help the new committee so that all things are constant. LPPA Chief Executive Officer ‘Mamojela Koneshe indicated that as the organization, they will work hand in hand with the newly Elected National Executive
Committee. She made it clear that every year has its AGM theme and this year’s AGM theme is: Promote Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) for a
healthy and friendly young person. Koneshe said the theme stems from the Campaign that is being promoted in 8 Southern African Developing Countries, Lesotho included, whose objective
is to contribute to positive changes in SRHR and CSE policies and laws and also to ensure a more effective domestication and monitoring of the Maputo Plan of
Action and ESA Commitments. This theme targeted the youth as they could not attend school well because of Covid-19 lockdowns hence a rise in early and
unintended pregnancies. They were also influenced by big development projects whereby a large vulnerable portion of the youth is always affected. The National Executive Committee is as follows, President: Thabang
Mosena, Treasurer: Nthatisi Motšetše, Chairperson (North): Machefo Thobileng, Central: Malau Sejelampeng, South: Setsoto Ramatšabane, Youth Action Movement Chairperson: Mathapelo Manyeli and her Vice: Ntšebo Lerotholi.
