Africa-Press – Lesotho. National University of Lesotho (NUL) Vice-Chancellor Professor Olusola Isaac Fajana has assured the nation that the university is committed to deliver quality education through
new electronic learning (e-learning) developments. NUL had invited the media for a briefing on devised learning strategies amidst Covid-19 pandemic and
adoption to blended learning for the year 2021/2022. Fajana informed that resumption of classes will predominantly take place online as the campus will
only be used for practical sessions. “The university is in the process of embedding its Learning Management System (LMS) “Thuto” to cloud computing to address the current challenges arising
from limited server capacity and high maintenance costs. This is a more affordable option that will allow more students and lecturers to access Thuto with ease.
The recent integration of alternative presentation modes into Thuto have also enhanced its capacity and flexibility for enhanced efficiency,” he stated.
Relating to the transition to e-learning, NUL fourth year student in the Faculty of Education Monaheng Mpesi informed that the university has been partially using the platform before
the advent of Covid-19. He said ever since he started school in 2018, Thuto has been running as a platform for sending and submitting assignments and transmitting reading material.
“Thuto became very useful when Covid-19 emerged in 2020, we continued our classes and
were able to receive resources from lecturers,” he said. Mpesi said apart from Thuto, they use other online platforms like zoom and WhatsApp for visual and audio content.
