Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Leribe Disaster Management Authority (DMA) is engaged in Food Distribution initiative for 10 679 vulnerable households, having commenced on Tuesday this week and anticipated to run the whole of January 2026.

This was revealed by Acting District Disaster Manager Leribe Mr. Mare Keketsi in an interview with the agency.

He explained that the food distribution is aimed at supporting vulnerable communities in the district while stimulating the local economy by creating a direct link between farmers and the distribution network.

Mr. Keketsi explained that the program is also aimed to support the farmers in producing more grains for the benefit of the district and other districts.

In addition to that, he highlighted the sourcing of grains done from local Basotho farmers while providing them with much needed market access.

He said the grains to be distributed include maize, sorghum, wheat and beans in the seven community councils, namely Matsoku, Ramapepe, Bolahla, Hlotse, Maoamafubelu, Sephookong, Maisaphoka and Menkhoaneng.

Moreover, Keketsi elaborated that due to the best production attained by Leribe district, the grains will be distributed to feed in other districts, citing Quthing, Maseru and Qacha’sNek.

The food distribution program is a vital step in supporting Lesotho’s communities by overcoming food insecurity and drought among others.
