Africa-Press – Lesotho. Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has received a court order through which it is sued by some Senior Officers from Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital.

According to PAC Member Dr. Thabo Moroke, the court is expected to hear the matter on Monday next week.

He stated that the issue emanates from a warrant that was earlier issued by PAC which compelled the said officers including the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health to appear before the committee after they failed to do so on a number of occasions.

“They deliberately avoided showing up to the committee to avoid answering questions, claiming they were busy,” he said.

He clarified that PAC operates under Parliamentary regulations and is mandated to uphold good governance, transparency and accountability in public finances, highlighting that government Ministries also report to different parliamentary committees on quarterly basis to ensure transparency and accountability in public finances.

“This shows PAC is on track as it is not sued for the first time by people who fail to account and answer questions,” he added.

Meanwhile, the meeting between PAC and Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial hospital is expected to resume on Tuesday next week.
