Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Public Works and Transport Mr. Matjato Moteane has finally launched the long-awaited personalized number plates at the Department of Traffic based in Ha Foso on Wednesday.
The launch, which saw the famous businessman, Mr. Tanki Pule commonly known as “Tichere Pule” being the pioneer of this significant milestone was followed by explanation on documents required and procedure of issuing the personalised number plates.
Mr. Moteane indicated that motorists could now deregister and register their vehicles to personalised number plates so that they could be included in the system.
He also disclosed that the money that will be collected in issuance of number plates will be transferred to the Road Fund, used to ensure improvement of traffic services and buy modern traffic machines as available ones are old.
He therefore expressed hope that the public will welcome the initiative as some ended up issuing them in South Africa, commending them for being patient since the launch was postponed a number of times.
“It took the Ministry almost 11 years to implement personalised number plates,” he said.
