Africa-Press – Lesotho. The prominent Lesotho Assistant referee Souru Phatšoane is set for yet another milestone after being appointed to firstly officiate at the upcoming Olympic Games to be

staged in Tokyo from July to August 2021. This is according to the media briefing statement issued by the football governing body – the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) on Thursday.

It showed that Phatšoane has already inked his name in the history books of football in the Mountain Kingdom when he became the first male referee to officiate at the Africa Cup of Nations

(AFCON) in 2019 and the Under -17 World Cup held in Egypt and Brazil respectively. “Phatšoane will

become the first football referee from Lesotho to officiate at the Olympics football tournament,” LeFA statement reads. The statement further indicated that LeFA President Advocate Salemane Phafane Kings Council

(KC) has congratulated Phatšoane on yet another milestone becoming the first football referee in Lesotho to officiate at the Olympic Games. “This is a massive

achievement not only for football, or Phatšoane as an individual, but for the whole country. It shows that there is something we are doing right in football

to have had a referee breaking all these records officiating in big competitions in the continent and globally in the last few days. He is a national asset and we are really humbled as LeFA to have produced a referee of his

talents,” LeFA President said. In an exclusive Interview with Informative Sport on Friday, LeFA Referees Coordinator Mohau Sentšo revealed that Phatšoane is one of the top football assistance referees in

Lesotho. He congratulated him for this historic achievement of being appointed to officiate in the upcoming international multi-sport event and embraced him

for being recognized as one of the hardest working referees in the country. “Since Phatšoane’s arrival in the Lesotho Refereeing Association, he has shown commitment to his

job and that is why earlier on he was once acknowledged by one of the world soccer governing bodies; the Federation of International Football Associations

(FIFA) Instructors, who was instructingMember Associations (MA) Referee Course in the country who advised that in relation to

Phatšoane’s outstanding abilities, it could be wise if he can be assigned to take part in International Refereeing,” Sentšo stated. Phatšoane has officiated

several football matches in the Lesotho Premier League, the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA), Confederation of African Football (CAF), the African Nations Championship (CHAN) Games and the under-17 World Cup.
