Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lesotho’s top Assistant Referee Souru Phatšoane will set another continental breakthrough following his appointment to officiate in the 2021 Confederation of African Football (CAF) finals and at the upcoming Olympic Games to be staged in Tokyo from July to August 2021.

Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) has on Friday released a statement which revealed that Phatšoane will rewrite the history books of football in the Mountain Kingdom, when he becomes the only Lesotho referee to officiate in two major continental finals after being appointed by CAF to be part of the officiating team for the confederations cup final between Raja Casablanca v JS Kabylie to be played in Cotonou, Benin on July 10.

“He, in 2020 officiated in the CAF Super Cup final between ES Tunis v Zamalek played in Doha.

Phatšoane is also on his way to Tokyo for the Olympic Games scheduled for July to August and will also become the first Mosotho football referee to officiate at the Multi-Sport games,” the statement highlighted.

It further showed that for the Confederations Cup final in Cotonou, Phatšoane will be working as the second assistant referee with South Africa’s (SA) Victor Gomes and Zakhele Siwela as the central referee and first assistant referee respectively.

LeFA Referees Coordinator Mohau Sentšo, speaking in an exclusive interview with Informative Sport on Monday stated that Phatšoane is one of the prominent referees in the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).

He said Phatšoane worked under CAF since 2019, in various tournaments including Under- 17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, CAF Super Cup, African Nations Championship (CHAN), and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“On behalf of LeFA Referees department, this is an important milestone to us. It shows that the country is performing well because of succeeding to create such an incredible referee.

He is dedicated to his work; therefore this makes the country to be very proud of him,” Sentšo noted. He challenged other referees to follow in Sentšo’s footsteps so that Lesotho shall be able to have more referees who will represent the country internationally.

Similarly, LeFA on the statement issued on July 3rd 2021, indicated that it is proud to announce that two of its top referees Osias Koto (Central Referee) Siza Dlangamandla (Assistant Referee) have been selected among a panel of match officials who will be officiating at the upcoming Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) tournament scheduled to take place in South Africa, Nelson Mandela Bay.

“LeFA is proud of these two match officials and wishes them well in their assignments at the regional competition,” reads the statement.
