Africa-Press – Lesotho. Photographers based in Maseru Downtown have shared mixed experiences about the festive season highlighting both opportunities and challenges affecting their businesses.

Speaking in an interview with one of the photographers based at Makoanyane Square Park Mr. Liteboho Matsau said his business had been doing well in previous months before the reconstruction of the park, which has negatively affected his work.

Matsau explained that clients now complain about the background of the pictures and often tell him they will only return once the park has been renovated.

He added that pricing remains one of the biggest challenges, as some photographers charge lower prices despite differences in camera quality.

“As a result, clients expect the same prices from everyone which is a bit awkward,” emphasising that photography plays an important role in preserving memories and urged the public to take photography seriously.

Meanwhile, Mr. Thabo Chabane said his business has been performing well during the festive season, noting that he earns more income compared to previous months.

However, he also identified pricing as a major challenge, saying clients often want to pay lower prices without considering differences in camera quality.

Chabane further said some members of the public resist having their pictures taken even for marketing or advertising purposes and in some cases, use vulgar language or become aggressive and report them to the police.

He appealed to the government of Lesotho to recognise them and introduce laws that protect them while carrying out their work.

Makoanyane square has recently become a popular photography spot, though with current renovations, the influx reduced while number of photographers increased.
