Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Prime Minister, Mr Ntsokoane Matekane launched the introduction of microchip animal tracking device at the event held at Peka, Leribe on Saturday.
Speaking at this event, Mr Matekane indicated that this initiative comes as the government’s effort in implementing more strategies towards ending stock theft across the country. He showed that the government shall work together with all the responsible departments to ensure that the microchip procedure becomes a success.
Speaking on behalf of farmers, Mr Rets’elisitsoe Theko showed that this initiative follows a tour that was taken to South Africa to learn about this method which revealed the need to implement the tracking device in Lesotho.
Superintendent Leuoane Thamae applauded the initiative, explaining that the tracking device will help with easy recovery of animals. The microchip tracking method is an injection inserted into animals and the method was demonstrated to two animals during the event. The expectation is that the device will be inserted in other animals.
