Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Prime Minister (PM) Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane says the handing-over of Agricultural Storage and Logistic Infrastructure, which worth M150 Million was not just a donation but inauguration of the new era of food security and self-reliance for the nation.
This he said during the handing-over ceremony of the above-mentioned facility by the People’s Republic of China to Lesotho at ha Foso on Wednesday.
Mr. Matekane reminded that the country recently celebrated the agricultural machinery donation from China, saying the handover of modern grain storage facility marks recognition of a comprehensive approach for Lesotho’s agricultural challenges.
“Our journey is that of the revolution of the agricultural sector so that production, storage processing and marketing becomes a complete and functional value chain” he said, expressing gratitude to the People’s Republic of China for walking a journey of development with Lesotho.
He also pledged Lesotho’s support to China in all her efforts, particularly the One -China Policy.
When handing over the facility, China Ambassador to Lesotho Mr. Yang Xiaokun said they stand ready to further strengthen cooperation and jointly enhance food security in Lesotho as she has good land and human resources.
He indicated that for Lesotho, 2025 was the year of effectively addressing external challenges and delivering impressive outcomes.
He added that the agricultural machinery handed over to the country by China in October this year also cemented bonds of cooperation between the two countries and promoted Lesotho’s agricultural modernisation.
Speaking at the same event, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition Mr Thabo Mofosi said the grain storage facility will bring back farmers’ hope as they have for a long time been longing for proper food storage, expressing appreciation over the gesture.
