Africa-PressLesotho. MASERU – The Prime Minister (PM) Dr Moeketsi Majoro has tested positive for COVID-19. This is according to the statement released by his office today.

It is reported that the PM undertook the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests for his scheduled private travel which returned positive. Dr Majoro will remain in isolation until

he is cleared, the statement has said. ““I would like to share with the public the important message I drew from this experience: (1) had it not been for

testing required for travel, I would not have known that I am COVID positive; (2) even if you are vaccinated, you could still get infected by coronavirus and

can still spread it unknowingly ; (3) being vaccinated is likely to prevent the onset of serious illness, hospitalisation and possible death from the virus;

(4) being vaccinated may not prevent infection from yet unknown Covid variants.

“The important message is that even when you are vaccinated, you should still follow WHO [World Health Organisation] and

Ministry of Health Covid-19 protocols at all times. Being vaccinated should not bring about reckless behaviour as an infected person can infect other people

who are not vaccinated,”” said the PM. Earlier in March, the PM along the Royal Family and other dignitaries rolled up their sleeves taking first AstraZeneca

jabs at Scott Hospital in Morija during the launch of the vaccination program. He has previously announced that the government aims to inoculate about 1.4 million people.

Some of the African leaders who have contracted the virus albeit having succumbed to it are: Prime Minister of Eswatini Ambrose Dlamini, Ivory Coast’s Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko President of Tanzania Dr John

Magufuli and President of Burundi Pierre Nkurunziza. The PM’s office allayed the worries of the nation to remain calm as the PM recuperates. The first COVID-19 case in Lesotho was recorded on May 13 in 2020.
