POLICE BOSS CALLS FOR SURRENDER OF ILLEGAL GUNS

Africa-Press – Lesotho. Acting Police Boss Dr. Mahlape Morai has called on Basotho and everybody residing in the country to surrender illegal firearms to the police in the next 14 days starting May 21 to June 05.

She made this call in relation to the campaign “Silence of guns in the Kingdom of Lesotho”, which she said is aimed at giving opportunity for people who have illegal firearms to hand them over to their nearest police station or to their Chiefs without being arrested. She said that those who surrender will not need to provide their identity during such an exercise.

She said that they are expecting not only illegal firearms to be surrendered but ammunition as well as any illegal weapons saying that those who will fail to hand over during the 14 days will be arrested and dealt with lawfully.

She urged the public to report any illegal guns, those who have them and help the police in confiscating such weapons to maintain Lesotho’s everlasting peace.

The ‘Silencing the Guns in Africa’ agenda, is a flagship initiative of the African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063, aspires to end all wars and conflict, prevent genocide, and stop gender-based violence. Therefore every year in September AU member states commemorate the month as Silencing the Guns in Africa.
