Africa-Press – Lesotho. As part of crime prevention strategies during Christmas and New Year’s Eve holidays, members of Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) in the district are visible in different commercial areas and roadblocks on routes throughout the district.
In an interview Quthing District Police Deputy Commissioner Senior Superintendent Semati Chitja said the patrols and roadblocks that started from Monday this week, are led by Senior Officers of LMPS for accountability and effective management.
He said Police Satellite offices will also be opened at different crime hotspots areas which include Ha-Potso, Ha-Makoae, Dalewe, Maqokho and Sixondo to prevent and reduce crime.
He noted that crime prevention committees from different villages are also ready to prevent crime from village level working hand in hand with chiefs, community councillors and the police.
The District Police Deputy Commissioner appealed to the Quthing community and those that have come home for Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations to avoid going to the public bars until late since it is when people overdrink alcohol and end up with quarrels and fights that lead to killings.
He further called on public bar owners to close the bars at scheduled time, public transport drivers to avoid overloads and to evade driving under the influence of alcohol to avoid road accidents during the holidays.
Quthing has four police stations, namely Mphaki, Mt. Moorosi, Tele and Dilli-Dilli.
