Africa-Press – Lesotho. Women in the district will acquire essential car maintenance skills at a one-day Ladies with Wheels training scheduled for Saturday next week at Liphakoe Sports Ground in Upper Moyeni.
The initiative, organized by Quthing Ladies in collaboration with the Quthing Women Empowerment Institute (QWEI) and the Technical Institute of Leloaleng (TIL), seeks to build confidence and self-reliance among women drivers.
Liphakoe Ladies Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Sekhotseng Molapo, emphasized that every driver, regardless of gender, should possess basic technical knowledge.
She noted that such skills are vital for ensuring safety, management of common vehicle issues, effective communication with mechanics, and reducing vulnerability.
Mrs. Molapo said practical activities at the event will include changing a tyre, checking vehicle fluids, jump-starting a car, and replacing wiper blades.
Participants will also be trained to understand dashboard signals, which Mrs. Molapo described as crucial for safety, preventing costly repairs, ensuring legal compliance and extending vehicle lifespan.
She added that empowering women with these skills enhances independence, safety, and financial control. It reduces reliance on others for transport or repairs, fosters confidence in handling emergencies, and helps prevent exploitation by dishonest mechanics.
This marks the first event of its kind to be held in the district.
