Africa-Press – Lesotho. A 40-year-old man from Mpharane Kopialena Rantho Ramanyaka has effortlessly paid M 3000.00 and avoided 3 years imprisonment, after the court found him guilty of unlawful possession of a fire arm.
Evidence before court shows that upon January, 02 police officers received a tip off and paid Ramanyaka a visit, and upon arrival they introduced themselves and the purpose of the visit, when the latter voluntarily handed out a.38 Special Revolver he possessed without holding a licence and was arrested while the weapon was seized as exhibit.
Ramanyaka who appeared before Magistrate Relebohile Rakhongoana and Makoae Sekepe for prosecution, was charged with contravening Section 3 (1) and 2 (a) of Internal Security Act No: 17 of 1966, as amended by Act No: 4 of 1999.
The court has ordered that the firearm be destroyed, while Inspector Kotsoane Ramakau from the Police’s Public Relations office confirmed in an interview with the Agency that illegal firearms will be destroyed in July, and such operation is carried out by all countries in SADC region.
