A beaming Ramokotjo told thepost yesterday that “hard work” had finally paid off and her dream of studying medicine was now within reach. Ramokotjo said if it had not been because of her dedication and commitment to work, she could not have made it.
At all material times, Mokotjo said she was always in the company of her books. “Everywhere I went, I would carry a book with me. Even in bed I was sleeping with my books next to me,” she said.
At times, she would have conflicts with her mother as she could not even assist her with the household chores. “Most of the time my mother was always shouting at me,” Mokotjo said, adding that her mother would complain that she was not helping her with household chores because she was always reading.
She said if she did not study hard and prayed, she could not have achieved what she did. Ramokotjo said she wants to study medicine to help save lives.
Speaking after the official release of the results, Education Minister Professor Ntoi Rapapa said he was happy with the overall performance this year.
He said there has been a significant improvement in the results this year as compared to last year’s. Professor Rapapa said they had however picked up that the students who perform well in the LGCSE exams are struggling at tertiary level.
“They underperform and this is worrisome,” he said. He said it is time to make a follow up on these students so that they do not feel neglected.
“It is time that history be written that we make follow ups on their educational lives,” Professor Rapapa said. This is the first time that students wrote the school-leaving exams 11 years after the phasing out of Grade 12.
“I am pleased to announce that the students have performed well as compared to last year,” Professor Rapapa said. For those who did not perform well, Professor Rapapa said they still have a chance to do better.
Mafeteng district has performed far better than all the districts in the 2023 results while Quthing scored the lowest results. The other districts that performed well are Qacha’s Nek, Leribe, Thaba-Tseka and Maseru respectively.
