Ranieri Rejects Italy Job to Remain as Roma Senior Advisor

Africa-Press – Lesotho. The former manager of Leicester City, Claudio Ranieri, declined the opportunity to take over as manager of Italy in order to focus on his position at Roma.

Although Gian Piero Gasperini recently took Ranieri’s place as Roma manager, he still serves as a senior advisor.

Luciano Spalletti was fired by the Italian football association on Monday following his team’s 3-0 defeat to Norway in a World Cup qualifying match on Friday.

Last November, Ranieri came out of retirement to become Roma’s manager, but he resigned at the end of the season.

Speaking to Italian news agency ANSA, Ranieri said: “My decision, the Friedkins supported me. I thank Gravina (FIGC President) for the opportunity.”

Sky in Italy are reporting the Italian FA will turn their attention to Stefano Pioli for the role.
