Africa-Press – Lesotho. Minister of Education and Training Professor Ntoi Rapapa has on Tuesday during a media briefing urged for more support in the 2026 Back to School program particularly from Early childhood Care and Development (ECCD) to post primary scheduled for Monday, January 26.

He said on the said day, to show support to everybody including stakeholders, business community, public servants and people of goodwill should visit different schools in their uniforms to remind the public that education needs joint efforts for the benefit of a child and country as a whole. He said those willing could on the day share their expertise by teaching learners.

He added that people can also donate school uniforms and pay school fees especially for post primary students while others can help refurbish and maintain some of the schools’ buildings as well as providing teaching aid materials.

He highlighted that the ministry is also working on providing psychological counselling to teachers and students in relation to challenges they face in their different schools.

Moreover, Prof. Rapapa commended all those who took part in this year’s Back to School saying that has had a positive impact in the Grade 7 End of Year performance.

He indicated that the Prime Minister’s Golf Tournament raised about M1.1 million which he said was used to assist students with visual impairment and physical disability as well as other 438 students. While others including the private sector, cabinet ministers and individuals donated school uniforms, stationery, computers, paid school fees and built and maintained classrooms.

The Ministry of Education and Training initiated the Back-to-School program in January 2023 to encourage all sectors of society to contribute to quality education in Lesotho.

Meanwhile the African Union (AU) launched the AU Decade of Education 2026-2035, with 2026 marking the start of this ambitious strategy focused on transforming education through ending learning poverty, elevating the teaching profession and aligning education with digital/innovation all under the broader goal of inclusive, quality, relevant and accessible learning for all Africans.
