Africa-Press – Lesotho. Lucas Vázquez’s long journey with Real Madrid is coming to an end. The 33-year-old will play his final games for the club during the upcoming Club World Cup, as he and the club have agreed not to extend his contract, which expires in June.
Despite being offered a one-year extension, both parties were ultimately not on the same page, leading to a mutual decision to part ways. Vázquez leaves behind a glittering legacy, having won five Champions League titles and four La Liga crowns since rising through the ranks of Madrid’s academy, which he joined in 2007.
Other than a loan spell at Espanyol during the 2014–2015 season, Vázquez has been a loyal servant to the Bernabéu. His versatility, professionalism, and tactical intelligence made him a reliable option both in attack and at right-back. Now, he looks set to explore new horizons, with several options on the table—including possible moves outside Europe. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are already planning for the future in his position, with a strong interest in young Spanish left-back Álvaro Carreras.
