Maseru, Feb. 24 — Roads Directorate has called on road users, motorists and pedestrians to be vigilant and notice the signage provided on speed humps constructed at designated areas.
The call was made by the Director Road Network Maintenance, Mr. Boitumelo Dillane in an interview with the Agency, following warnings trending on social media regarding speed humps constructed at the northern region, Lekokoaneng, Berea and near Sechaba High School, Kolonyama, also reporting that they had allegedly caused accidents at some areas due to lack of markings.
He indicated that relevant road signs to warn and inform motorists have been erected at areas where speed humps have been constructed, saying the remaining state, which the directorate is busy with, is road markings which are underway.
“While we admit current rains interfere with this remaining task, we are taking advantage of sunny days to provide road markings,” he added.
He also stressed that the Roads Directorate is providing these speed control devices across the network as a clear intention of calming the operating speed for the safety of all road users, be it pedestrians and motorists.
“We implore our road users to be vigilant, notice the signage provided and act accordingly,” he concluded.
The Roads Directorate commenced the construction of 14 speed humps worth M4 626 203.67million in the Northern region in January this year and will be completed in March.
