Africa-Press – Lesotho. The newly formed Rocket Sports Academy (Rosa) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lesia High School under which it will coach boxing and badminton.

The academy was launched on Monday this week. Founded by Moroke Mokhotho, Rosa is a community based organization that is established to bring people together

through physical activities. It pilots its work with two sports codes, boxing and badminton. The academy is affiliated with Lesotho Boxing Association and Lesotho Badminton Association.

Speaking at the launch, Mokhotho indicated that 2022 will be the first year of engagement with the national federation activities, saying they need to include more sports codes to

reinforce their presence within the sports fraternity. He said Rosa accommodates women, children and people living with disabilities and aims to engage everyone to

combat the alarming criminal cases in the neighbouring villages and promote social cohesion. Rosa is mandated to partner with other relevant stakeholders to develop and empower youth around Thetsane

villages, such stakeholders include the churches, schools and business sectors. Rosa Vice Secretary ‘Malitsietsi Zwakala said the MoU is under the following scope of partnership; Rosa will help Lesia

High School to establish sport clubs, offer coaching services to the already existing clubs and secure Lesia High School membership in the national federations.

“It will also offer membership to the students beyond completion of studies at Lesia High School and provide basic

training equipment for all training sessions,” she stated. Lesia High School will on the other hand offer training space for Rosa to operate, pay membership fees for the

affiliated national federations, provide personal equipment and competition attire for club members, pay transport and bills for the team while attending

matches and competitions and ensure safety of training equipment at the school premises. For his part, Lesia High School Principal Mathafeng Moteuli said the school has partnered with other national

sports academies including rugby in 2014 and they are the champions of women’s rugby. “We are committed to do our best in the work we are mandated to perform. The best players ever in all sporting codes within the country, such as taekwondo and netball are the products of our school,” he acknowledged.
