Africa-Press – Lesotho. Sale of farming inputs (seeds and fertilisers) will commence on September 22 in preparation of summer cropping in the lowlands.

This was revealed by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition Mr. Thabo Mofosi in his statement.

Mr. Mofosi said the government has subsidised fertilisers by 80 percent while seeds, pesticides and herbicides are subsidised by 70 percent, saying sale of above-mentioned farming inputs commenced on August 11, in the highlands.

He said farmers who want to buy the farming inputs must unite from Resource Centres so that it could be brought closer to them and avoid long queues, adding that block farmers will be given an overall subsidy of 40 percent for farming inputs.

He also said all farmers will buy farming inputs based on the size of fields to be cultivated, reminding farmers that during sale, they should present identity documents and a letter from the Extension Officer amongst others.

He concluded by urging farmers to ensure they utilise all farming inputs bought for summer cropping and should not be re-sold, emphasising that Extension Officers will work cooperatively with all groups of people to ensure the inputs are used according to terms of the government through the Ministry.
