Africa-Press – Lesotho. Federation of Lesotho Rugby (FLR) president, Fetang Selialia, has been voted a new member of the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC). Selialia’s appointment comes after the September 2019 resignation of Advocate Tšepo Ntaopane who served the Olympic Committee as Vice President – Finance.
The appointment has forced movement within the committee, with Vice Secretary General, Letsatsi Ntsibolane, given a new responsibility as the Vice President Finance and Advocate Bothobile Shebe, who held the position the position of ordinary member has become the new Vice Secretary General.
A LNOC circular of February 25 announcing the developments reads: “The LNOC is pleased to inform your office that Mr Fetang Selialia, the President of Federation of Lesotho Rugby, was selected as the new member of the LNOC Executive Committee at the sitting of the 16th February 2021.
” The appointments have also been confirmed to this paper by LNOC Secretary General, ’Mathato Makhorole, in a Tuesday interview. Selialia also confirmed his new role in the LNOC executive committee in an interview this week.
“I feel very honoured to have been appointed to the LNOC Executive Committee after just ten years serving in sports and I am very proud that out of so many people I am trusted to fill the that position,” said Selialia.
“For me this is an opportunity to get to know how things are done at this highest level of sports administration, and also for me to make an input to the development of sports in the country as regards to the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games,” he continued.
Selialia’s appointment as a member of the LNOC executive committee comes during a time when he is considering stepping down as the national rugby federation’s boss, ahead of the FLR general elective conference to be held next month.
But the FLR Secretary General, Litšitso Motšeremeli, is on record imploring Selialia not to leave office and contest for a next term as rugby president in the country.
Motšeremeli contends that from the current crop of rugby administrators “nobody is capable to lead the rugby federation should Selialia remain true to his earlier declaration that he will not contest for the next term.
” The FLR secretary reiterated his position again on Tuesday this week, indicating that his office has requested Selialia to reconsider his decision to step down.
“We have pleaded with him not to quit the federation, and he seemed to have heard us out,” said Motšeremeli.
But Selialia says he’s at the moment undecided on reconsidering his earlier decision to leave the federation. “They have been trying to persuade me but I am still thus far. I will be sure about what to do by the next week,” he added.
He further said: “They have put me under immense pressure, saying we are at the last stage of our submission to become World Rugby and are on at the moment waiting for a council meeting to know whether we have succeeded or not.
Selialia had previously pinned his decision to leave rugby on work commitments, but he has since revealed to this publication that his decision not to contest for a next term was “simply because I am tired of the politics in sports.
To be honest, I was tired of sports politics; as a result I wanted to focus on my life, work and career and forget sports.
Selialia took over the leadership of the FLR in 2014 after the founding president Dan Alyward stepped down to return to his native country, England.
