Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Ministry of Health has received the second batch of Sinopharm vaccine from Sesiu sa Letšoele le Beta Poho on Monday. The Sesiu sa Letšoele le Beta Poho fund was founded by local business veterans with
the purpose of augmenting the acquisition and roll-out of Covid-19 vaccine programme. About 30 000 people will get the injection. It is said to be 79%
effective after two doses. Sinopharm can be stored at a refrigerator temperature of between 2 and 8 degrees celsius and can be safe for use within six months.
Sesiu sa Ltšoele le Beta Poho Fund Chairman Sam Matekane said the fund has allocated approximately M30 million for procurement of vaccines. “We are thankful
to our Embassy in People’s Republic of China for assisting us with storage and the Ministry of Health for letting us partake in their fight against the
Covid-19 pandemic. About 15 000 people have vaccinated at our vaccination sites which are opened to all. Let us vaccinate for our economy, family and friends
and for our safety,” he noted. Speaking at the event, the National Covid-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) Deputy Chief Executive Operational Support Thabo Ntoi exchanged gratitude to Sesiu sa Letšoele le Beta Poho for
their kind gesture in donating the vaccine. He mentioned that the Covid-19 cases have been high since December last year even though deaths have decreased, and urged Basotho to vaccinate to save their lives.
On behalf of the Minister of Health, Minister of Forestry, Range and Soil Conservation Hon Motlohi Maliehe acknowledged Basotho corporations for their continuing support
in the struggle with the pandemic. He said the government is not forcing people to vaccinate but it is important that they do so for their health and their safety and the economy of the country. He thanked Sesiu sa Letšoele le Beta Poho on behalf of the government and the ministry.
