Africa-Press – Lesotho. In honour ofMotšelisi Makoae, famously known as Morali oa Mosotho, Morali Oa Mosotho Covid-19 Trust was launched last Friday. Makoae succumbed to Covid-19 on February 4th 2021.

The launch is therefore in commemoration for her lost life. She was well-known for her passion for Lesotho, promoting it as a tourism destination, playing an active role in its

economic development and improving the lives of those less fortunate than herself. To continue her humanitarian initiative, Morali Oa Mosotho Trust aims to support

vulnerable children affected by the pandemic. In her remarks, Morali Oa Mosotho Covid-19 Trust Trustee ‘Makhomo Motaung mentioned that the trust fund is mandated to contribute in activities relating

to the suppression of Covid-19, awareness raising, countering misinformation, reducing death and illness and part taking in issues relating to vaccine procurement and

diagnostics. Sharing the vision for the trust, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Hon. ‘Matšepo Makoae, also a mother to Motšelisi

explained that the deceased made it her mission to improve access to education, in particular for girls. She worked tirelessly, in her own capacity and as a volunteer

with several organizations including Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso’s Hlokomela Banana Trust, getting children into schools and keeping them

there. “Sadly we lost Motšelisi on the 4th of February 2021. Having had first-experience of the tragic impact of the pandemic, I saw it fitting for the Trust to focus on supporting girls impacted by Covid-19.

The Covid-19 has had a devastating impact on Lesotho, erasing some of the gains the country has made in curbing poverty. Learners have been hardest hit by the double burden of

the closure of schools and a lack of access to infrastructure and online learning facilities,” she noted. On behalf of the family, Lesotho High Commissioner to Pretoria His Excellency

Sekhonyana Bereng acknowledged all who have supported the family. He added that the establishment and launch of the Trust will be etched in their memory as a

monument for the esteem and love Morali Oa Mosotho’s friends and colleagues had for her. He said the trust will grow and blossom and continue to give meaning

for a better Lesotho. In its first year, Morali Oa Mosotho Trust aims to engage and work with educators and other key partners to develop the framework defining how to identify and

select beneficiaries who embody Morali Oa Mosotho’s spirit and drive, establishing mechanisms to set up the best to support them and provide ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
