Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Ministry of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation has finally handed over M130, 000 to the three athletes that represented Lesotho at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Wednesday.
Lesotho’s long distance runners Khoarahlane Seutloali, his wife ‘Neheng Khatala and Litšitso Khotlele (Discus throw) were promised M50, 000, M50, 000 and M30, 000 respectively after the Olympics games last year by the Ministry for their participation.
They were the only athletes that qualified for the games. Speaking at the handover ceremony Seutloali thanked the Ministry for their noble gesture. He said competing at the Olympics is always a challenge for any athlete as they are paired against the best in the world.
“We promise to do better at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in July,” he added. Khotlele also expressed gratitude to the Ministry.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics Lesotho Chef De Mission Letsatsi Ntsibolane expressed gratitude to the Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation Hon Likeleli Tampane.
He also thanked the athletes for their patience and resilience as they were promised the money eight months ago. Meanwhile Hon. Likeleli Tampane said this is her way of showing appreciation to the athletes for representing Lesotho at the prestigious games.
“When a person has done good, do not be ashamed to reward them. I am excited that we have finally delivered on our promise,” she added.
