Mokhotlong, Feb. 11 — Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) has launched the second Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Naming Competition for Grade 11 learners in high schools countrywide.
According to a press release issued by the Authority on its socials, the competition was officially opened on February 04 and will close on February 25 this year.
“The proposed name should reflect the features or the work of the TBM,” the Authority said.
LHDA stated that a panel of judges will be engaged to select 10 most meaningful and creative names which will be announced across the board on different platforms, adding that a national vote to determine the winning name to be given to the Polihali TBM will also be opened in due course.
The TBM will excavate the 38 kilometers long Polihali Transfer Tunnel from the Polihali end, Mokhotlong side.
It arrived in the country in July last year while the first machine named “Khuiti-ea-Ngoaha-Kholo (KENK2) started excavation from Leribe side in January 2025.
