Member of the Ha-Moqekela Coalition’s Co-operative Councilor Ms Mathepo Sebutsoe on the occasion showed that the bridge they were using and the road to the various services in the city were taken. are floods during the heavy rains of early spring.
“After the tragedy, we had no way to cross the river, we were on the slope to reach our destination, and school children and the elderly were walking the same route to reach the services. .
He further explained that the road serves three villages namely Phase I, Phase II and Motsoloane II and the estimated cost of completing the bridge was M360 000.00. He said that after their application for the bridge was approved, the LHDA met with the Local Government Council and allowed them to continue the process under the direction of a guide where they were stoning themselves as a community. he carried them on their shoulders to the place of work.
Deputy Minister of Water Affairs, Hon. Maime, in his address, said the reason for his involvement in the road and bridge construction is that the LHDA has been involved and the main issue is that government agencies are working together.
Maime said he was very proud that the Ha-Moqekela community had finally found their basic need as a bridge and said he hoped to meet them in the future to water it from house to house as it was still a project. of the government to see that improvements take place in the area, including electricity.
“I thank LHDA for this help because I often get involved in its affairs where the community is concerned about its performance. I have heard that the big cry is the need for electricity and this news has fallen on deaf ears, I hope it will come true, ”Maime said.
Local Government Candidate for the Ha-Moqekela Local Government Council Mr ‘Mafeiki Lekhanya, in an exclusive interview with Voice of the Nation indicated that his community had finally made this improvement because it was facing a major challenge when it had to crossing into the town of Thaba-Tseka at a time when the river was flooded as the bridge was washed away. He said that although the river was not flooded, the problem was that he had dug a hole in the river that forced a person to cross on foot, which is why his council came up with advice. to the public for the construction of such a bridge.
“Other challenges within the area include the need for water as it is modern as one cannot live without it as it is only available and not enough for the community. Another great need is electricity because at the moment most of the work is completed by its use so there is no connection in this area, ”Lekhanya explained.
One of the residents, Mr Motula Moqekela, said in a statement that they were grateful as a community for having a bridge today as they were trying their best to cross the town and the school children were. they are unable to get to school on time. “We had to get to the services hard and we had to go around, and the damage was huge as natural resources such as trees were washed away and graves near the river where they were already in great danger,” Moqekela said.
