Africa-Press – Lesotho. The 19 years old Mookho Suping has launched her first poetry book entitled ‘The Mind Speaks’ with the support of Writers Space Africa-Lesotho (WSA-L).

WSA-L is an organization that works to promote authorship and readership in the country and its affiliates are aspiring artists and those already in the industry.

It is an organization under the umbrella of a continental group called Writers Space Africa (WSA) and was first introduced to Lesotho in April 2020 by a few writers

who created a WhatsApp group to share their stories and help critique and review their works. The organization had last year launched a writing competition for high school students where the aim was

to have the top prize winner published. This was the first competition by the organization, which will see many annual episodes going forward. As explained

by WSA-Lvice Coordinator Ntsie Phethoane, this initiative is intended to help youth to make a living out of writing. “To select the winner, we had a team within WSA-L that edited the poems and rated them.

Then after that requested recital videos from selected top three winners so that we can also have the public judge them. Then we did select the winner basing ourselves on

the public judgement together with organization’s team judgement. That was how Mookho Suping became the winner of the poetry competition. WSA-L then awarded

her as promised, an opportunity to be mentored by one of the phenomenal poets from Writers Space Africa, Uganda chapter Omadang Yowasi and got herself an

opportunity to get her poems published,” Phethoane revealed. He further explained that their support was to make sure she gets her anthology which was launched on

Friday and is currently available. He noted that the funds that will be raised from its sales are hers alone. “This is aimed at giving her opportunity to save

for her next book since our biggest aim is to promote the culture, the biggest way to do that is by first giving her an opportunity to bring more of herself

to the public through books,” Phethoane explained. In an interview with Informative Newspaper, “The Mind Speaks” author explained the book is intended to encourage youth by depicting possibility for

any dream to come true, he said it has transformed her own life during its compilation. “The main purpose of this book is to make people aware that even

if things seem to be falling apart now, time will come for everything to come into place and in the end the rest of us are going to be alright. This book

rescued my entire being from a lot of things I went through,” Suping said. Revealing the secret behind the tittle, she said while she was writing the poems, she created the scenarios

in her mind. “Some were thoughts, some of which were states that were messing up with my mental health and mostly were things I saw happening around me and

that I found myself not wanting to deal with through the heart but through the head. I also feel through the head not the heart,” Suping informed. She said her passion for

writing started in her 6th grade at primary, triggered by the likes of a poetry book – Poetry for Pleasure. She said she knew that she always wanted to own her own book. Suping is a resident at Roma and is currently doing her Diploma in Mass Communication at the Institute of Extra Mural Studies (IEMS).
