Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane says it is the conviction of the Government that the Extraordinary Meeting of the Organ Troika Summit will pave the way for Lesotho to be removed from the Agenda of SADC under the item of Political and Security Situation in the SADC Region.

He said this at the press conference following the Extraordinary Meeting of the Organ Troika Summit (EO OTS) held in Windhoek, Namibia on 31 January 2023.

The Prime minister, Mr. Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane, led the Lesotho delegation. Mr. Mpotjoane said the Prime Minister briefed Summit on the Political and Security situation in the country, saying Mr. Matekane indicated that the political and security situation in Lesotho remains stable following the 2022 general elections.

He noted that there is a consensus among all the political leaders and other national leaders on the need to accelerate the reforms agenda, which will usher in a new era of lasting peace and stability in our beloved Kingdom.

He said the Prime Minister updated the summit on the progress made regarding the reforms process. He mentioned that the Summit commended the Government and the People of the Kingdom of Lesotho for conducting peaceful and successful elections and congratulated Mr. Matekane for his appointment as the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho.

He said the Summit also welcomed the commitment made by the Prime Minister to prioritise the implementation and completion of the comprehensive national reforms process and approved the Action Plan for the Lesotho Reforms Oversight Committee to monitor the finalisation of the reforms process in the Kingdom of Lesotho. It is expected that the Oversight Committee will visit Lesotho in due time to engage with the Government and other key stakeholders.
