Berea, Feb. 24 — The school principal of Tsoelang Pele Community Primary School highlighted that they have already started preparing for the upcoming Moshoeshoe’s Day although rain sometimes becomes a challenge.
During an interview with the agency, Mr. Makopela Tau stated that it is essential to commemorate Moshoeshoe’s Day in remembrance of his death on March 11. However, the celebration will take place on Friday, March 13.
Mr. Tau further stated that it is also important because it teaches students the history of Basotho and helps them understand their culture.
He added that students will be participating in cultural activities, under-16 and under-13 running races, and choral music.
“We are grouped with five schools; Koali, Assumption, Kepi, Ntjabane, and TY Junior School, and we will be celebrating Moshoeshoe’s Day at Ntjabane Government Primary School,” he said.
Moshoeshoe’s Day is a national celebration in Lesotho that honors King Moshoeshoe I, the founder of the Basotho nation. The day marks his death in 1870 and celebrates his leadership, diplomacy, and efforts to unite the Basotho people. It also gives students a chance to connect with their history and appreciate the cultural heritage that shapes Lesotho today.
