Africa-Press – Lesotho. TWO prominent Democratic Congress (DC) supporters have landed themselves in big trouble after they exchanged insults on social media. ’Mamohato Tšotetsi and ’Mamokete Mokhantšo will now face a disciplinary hearing, charged with bringing the name of the party into disrepute.

The two women are from Mokhotlong constituency. In a recorded voice clip, Mokhantšo is heard accusing Tšotetsi of being an opportunist who defected from the All Basotho Convention (ABC) party to enjoy benefits from the DC.

Immediately after her defection from the ABC three years ago, Tšotetsi was appointed a personal aide for the then Sports Minister Likeleli Tampane, a move that infuriated some DC supporters.

They said Tšotetsi was a newcomer who was snatching jobs from DC supporters. In the voice clip, Tšotetsi fires back saying she was personally deployed by the minister.

Tšotetsi confirmed to thepost this week that she had been summoned for a disciplinary hearing. She however declined to comment further insisting that party leader, Mathibeli Mokhothu, had instructed them not to talk to the press.

“My leader told us not to respond to the media about this issue,” Tšotetsi said. The DC’s secretary general, Tšitso Cheba, said they called the two to clarify why they were having a conflict.

“It is a norm that in our party, we call members for a disciplinary (hearing) if they tarnish the image of the party,” Cheba said.

Cheba said the two women were “insulting each other with terrible insults that embarrassed the party”. “It was not right for the women to go on social media platforms hurling insults (at each other),” he said.

He added that “the insults are unlawful and uncalled for especially when done by women”. “All the members belong to the party, it is right for the party to intervene where need be.

” Tšotetsi is popular on call-in radio programmes where she goes all out to defend the DC.
