View on Africa: will SADC resolve the Lesotho crisis this time?

Africa-Press – Lesotho. Chronically-unstable Lesotho has for the last few years resisted efforts by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to stabilise it. But after the assassination of Lesotho Defence Force commander Lieutenant-General Khoantle Motšomotšo by his subordinates on 5 September, SADC is taking the crisis a lot more seriously.
It is now deploying a battalion of peacekeepers into the country to protect Prime Minister Tom Thabane’s government while it tries to effect necessary reforms.

This View on Africa is presented by Peter Fabricius, an ISS consultant and freelance journalist based in Johannesburg. He will discuss SADC’s past attempts at stabilising Lesotho and the prospects of the new approach at last succeeding.
