Africa-Press – Lesotho. Mobile communications company, Vodacom Lesotho (VCL) donated tablets to AIDSFree Lesotho to inject technology use in the organisation’s operations and capacitate in its work. The handover ceremony was held at Vodacom Park Maseru on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event Vodacom Lesotho Executive Head; Legal Regulatory & external affairs Mr Molemo Motseki emphasized that Vodacom Lesotho through the foundation, remains committed to advancing the lives of society in which it operates.
With this objective he said the foundation addresses three pillar issues; health, education and entrepreneurship, hence the partnership with AIDSFree Lesotho whose focus is on health.
He said VCL’s history in health initiatives support dates back to the Moyo Project in 2015 where the foundation committed approximately M120 million in the treatment of Lesotho’s children and pregnant women living with HIV.
“As a continuation of our commitment to mobilizing HIV Identification and Treatment in Lesotho through the use of mobile technologies to increase the number of HIV+ children and pregnant women accessing treatment, we are excited to announce yet another partnership and support to another project that provides comprehensive, layered services, including school based HIV risk avoidance and violence prevention, community mobilization and norms change activities and HIV Testing Services (HTS),” he said.
In this partnership he said Vodacom Lesotho aims to support the organization through giving them tablets which will help in data collection and its analysis.
He emphasized their technology as Vodacom Lesotho is far reaching, with above 97% of Lesotho population coverage. He said this would positively help in touching and changing the lives of Basotho for the better.
Meanwhile, AIDSFree Country Director Dr Kelelo Lerotholi thanked Vodacom Lesotho for genuine support citing that it is surely going to enhance the organization’s work and capacitate it even more.
He further hailed the company for being committed to improving the lives of the society despite their majority presence in the cooperate world. He said AIDSFree is providing technical assistance and other support to countries to strengthen community-based and civil-society initiatives.
In Lesotho, AIDSFree is building the capacity of local Community Schemes Ombud Service (CSOS) to create demand for and bridge the gap between facility-based and community-based pediatric and Prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) services.
