Africa-Press – Lesotho. The Vodacom Premier League is back after four long months. The league was put on hold in January after Lesotho experienced a surge in the number of positive Covid-19 cases.
Despite the uncertainties about the league and whether there will be enough time to finish the season’s calendar on time, the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) has pushed on to finish the 2020/21 campaign.
The restart kicked off yesterday with Lioli against Lifofane in Butha-Buthe which was a game that was left behind because it could not be played in December due to bad weather.
One of the most highly-anticipated clashes of the first weekend back is between Bantu and Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) on Sunday at Setsoto Stadium.
Bantu are fighting to defend the title they won last season while LMPS under new coach Seepheephe Matete are looking to improve on their previous performances and move up the table.
Bantu alongside Matlama and Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) are still unbeaten after four league games. It is still early to predict where the title could be going but earlier performances had promised an interesting season.
The clubs will have to pick up where they left off four months ago. The only good thing about the break is that it has allowed teams whose players were struggling with injuries to make full recoveries.
According to the PLMC calendar, the first round is expected to be concluded on June 27 with the second round set to start soon after and end in August.
In other games, Matlama take on Likhopo on Saturday at Setsoto and whether ‘Tse Putsoa’ can maintain their perfect start to the season and challenge Bantu for the title remains to be seen.
Matlama’s earlier performance had drawn supporters back to the grounds and they will be back again to support their team after it was announced that the Premier League clubs can have up to 2 500 spectators for their games.
The last game Matlama played they beat Liphakoe 1-0 while Likhopo drew 1-1 with Swallows and have just one point in four games. Elsewhere, LCS will welcome Linare at LCS Ground on Saturday.
